Nordaustlandet facts for kids
Nordaustlandet (translates to Northeast land) ist the second biggest island of Svalbard. It lies to the northeast of Spitsbergen, which is the biggest island of the group, and the only islands with permanent settlements. Northeast land is about 170 kilometres (110 mi) by 125 kilometres (78 mi). It is uninhabited, and there are no settlements on it. During World War II, Germans operated a weather station.
