Lumbini is a zone of Nepal. It is located in Western Development Region. It is the birth place of Gautama Buddha, who became the founder of Buddhism.

Administrative subdivisions
Lumbini was divided into six districts; since 2015 all five districts (plus the western half of Nawalparasi District) have been redesignated as part of Lumbini Province, while the eastern half of Nawalparasi District has been redesignated as part of Gandaki Province.

Significance of Lumbini
Lumbini is one of the holiest place of Buddhists. The original name of Gautama Buddha was Sidhhartha Gautama. Lumbini is situated in the Terai region of Nepal. Lumbini has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also a significant pilgrimage for Buddhists.
Interesting Places
The most sacred place to go in Lumbini is the Mayadevi Temple (Mayadevi is the name of Lord Buddha’s mother). One can also see the inscriptions on the Ashoka Pillar which proves that the Buddha was born in Lumbini. Other than that, there are many other stupas built by the countries like China, Japan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Germany and so on. There is also a museum where people can see and learn about the ancient history of Lumbini and Gautama Budhha. There are many other fascinating sites in Lumbini which makes it one of the important districts of Nepal. It is also a touristic site as many tourists come and visit there. Lumbini is most visited by Buddhists from all over the world. Many monks do their prayers everyday. People come to Lumbini to meditate because it is quite peaceful there.
