Lothal facts for kids
Lothal was one of the many cities found in the Indus Valley civilization. Archaeological evidence from Lothal tells us that it was an industrial area. Metals, semi-precious stones, statues and beads were found. Several weapons, ornaments, seals and workshops were also found. A dockyard was also found which may have been used to ship goods to other civilizations like Mesopotamia.

To the northwest of Lothal lies the Kutch (see also Dholavira) peninsula, which was a part of the Arabian Sea until very recently in history. Owing to this, and the proximity of the Gulf of Khambhat, Lothal's river provided direct access to sea routes. Although now sealed off from the sea, Lothal's topography and geology reflects its maritime past.
