Le Vigan (Occitan: Lo Vigan) is a commune in south central France in the region of Occitanie. It is a subprefecture of the Gard department. It is also the capital of the arrondissement of the same name.

History
Since the creation of the Gard department on 4 March 1790, Le Vigan has been a subprefecture of the department.
Geography
Le Vigan is at the south of the Massif Central and near the Mont Aigoual, in the valley of the Arre, a right tributary of the Hérault river. The Arre flows through the town.
Le Vigan has an area of 17.2 km2 (6.6 sq mi), and its average altitude is 412 m (1,352 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 233 m (764 ft).
The commune of Le Vigan is surrounded by the communes Aulas, Avèze, Saint-André-de-Majencoules, Roquedur, Saint-Bresson, Pommiers and Mandagout.
