A subdomain is the portion shown before a domain name, separated by a dot (.)
For example, a domain might look like this
- example.com
Whereas the subdomain of this domain might look like this, shown here in bold
- subdomain.example.com

Many sites use sub domains for applications such as email, calendars or different languages, including these examples. Subdomains again shown in bold
