Skate punk is a music genre related to punk rock music. It began on the West Coast. It is a popular music with skateboarders and their culture.
Skate punk means the sound of melodic hardcore bands from the 1990s with an aggressive sound, and similar sounding modern bands. Many bands classified as skate punk also fit into genres such as pop punk, melodic hardcore, thrashcore, metalcore, surf punk and crossover thrash.
Skate videos use this aggressive style of punk rock for their background music. This played a big part in the coining of the term "skate punk". Skate punk is now popular in other parts of the world, including a large punk group in Oxnard, California.
