Seine department facts for kids
Seine was a département in France. It was created as Paris in 1790, and renamed to Seine in 1795. On the 1st of January 1968 it was abolished, together with the departement Seine-et-Oise which surrounded it. The area was distributed into 4 departements, Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, and Val-de-Marne. In 1968, about 5.7 million people lived in the area; about 2.5 million lived in the city of Paris.
