Satsuma Province facts for kids
Satsuma Province (薩摩国, Satsuma-no Kuni) was an old province of Japan in the area of Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū. Its abbreviation is Sasshū (薩州).
History
In the Meiji period, the provinces of Japan were converted into prefectures. Maps of Japan and Satsuma Province were reformed in the 1870s.
Shrines and Temples
Hirasaki jinja and Nitta Hachiman-gū were the chief Shinto shrines (ichinomiya) of Satsuma.
