"Rapunzel" is a German fairy tale. It was first published in 1812 as part of Grimms' Fairy Tales. The best known line in the story is "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair".
This story is about a lonely couple who want a child. They live next to a walled garden that belongs to a witch. The woman is pregnant. When the baby is born, a witch named Dame Gothel takes the baby and names her Rapunzel.
When she is twelve years old, Rapunzel is taken into a tower and shut away. One day a prince visits and asks her to marry him. She agrees.
There are many different versions of "Rapunzel".
