Kids Encyclopedia Facts

A persona (plural personae or personas), may mean the public image of one's personality, or the social role that one adopts. It can also mean a fictional character.

The word originally meant a theatrical mask. So acting is the original idea. But now the concept is much wider. People adopt one persona at work, another at home.

On the web, users develop virtual personas as online identities.
