Mapleton is a city in Bourbon County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 96.
History
Mapleton was originally called Eldora, and under the latter name was founded in 1857. A post office was established under the name Mapleton in 1857. The first store in Mapleton opened in 1858. In 1861, the name of the town was officially changed to Mapleton, matching the name of the post office. Mapleton was so named for a grove of maple trees near the original town site.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.50 square miles (1.29 km2), of which, 0.49 square miles (1.27 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.

2020 census
The 2020 United States census counted 96 people, 48 households, and 32 families in Mapleton. The population density was 193.5 per square mile (74.7/km2). There were 49 housing units at an average density of 98.8 per square mile (38.1/km2). The racial makeup was 89.58% (86) white or European American (84.38% non-Hispanic white), 0.0% (0) black or African-American, 1.04% (1) Native American or Alaska Native, 1.04% (1) Asian, 0.0% (0) Pacific Islander or Native Hawaiian, 2.08% (2) from other races, and 6.25% (6) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 9.38% (9) of the population.
Of the 48 households, 47.9% had children under the age of 18; 41.7% were married couples living together; 27.1% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present. 29.2% of households consisted of individuals and 14.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 5.7 and the average family size was 6.4. The percent of those with a bachelor’s degree or higher was estimated to be 3.1% of the population.
27.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35.0 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.0 males. For every 100 females ages 18 and older, there were 105.9 males.
The 2016-2020 5-year American Community Survey estimates show that the median household income was $38,750 (with a margin of error of +/- $17,878) and the median family income was $39,688 (+/- $30,590). Males had a median income of $40,956 (+/- $453) versus $29,107 (+/- $9,067) for females. The median income for those above 16 years old was $40,787 (+/- $605). 2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 84 people, 41 households, and 22 families residing in the city. The population density was 171.4 inhabitants per square mile (66.2/km2). There were 48 housing units at an average density of 98.0 per square mile (37.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.8% White and 1.2% Asian.
There were 41 households, of which 26.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.5% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 46.3% were non-families. 43.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 29.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.05 and the average family size was 2.86.
The median age in the city was 45 years. 17.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.9% were from 25 to 44; 26.2% were from 45 to 64; and 23.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 52.4% male and 47.6% female.

The community is served by Uniontown USD 235 public school district.
