Manoel de Barros facts for kids
Manoel Wenceslau Leite de Barros (December 19, 1916 – November 13, 2014) was a Brazilian poet. He has won many awards for his work, including twice the Prêmio Jabuti (the "Tortoise Prize"), the most important literary award in Brazil.
Barros was born in Cuiaba. He is thought by his critics as one of the greatest Brazilian poets to had ever lived. The poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade said that Manoel de Barros as the biggest poet of Brazil.
In the year 1998 the poet was rewarded with the "National prize of Literature of the Ministry of the Culture from Brazil", for the set of the work.
de Barros died in Campo Grande, Brazil, aged 96.
