Lookout (formerly, Whitley's Ford) is a census-designated place in Modoc County, California. It is located 11 miles (18 km) west of Adin, at an elevation of 4144 feet (1263 m). Its population is 68 as of the 2020 census, down from 84 from the 2010 census. Lookout's ZIP Code is 96054.
The Whitley's Ford post office operated from 1874 to 1875. The Lookout post office opened in 1880. The original name honors James W. Whitley, a local hotelier. The name Lookout recalls how Native Americans used nearby hills as observation points.

Climate
This region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Lookout has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps. Winters are very harsh, with dry cold snow with temperatures sometimes around or below zero.

The 2010 United States Census, reported that Lookout had a population of 84. The population density was 15.4 per square mile (5.9/km2). The racial makeup of Lookout was 76 (90.5%) White, 0 (0.0%) African American, 2 (2.4%) Native American, 0 (0.0%) Asian, 0 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 5 (6.0%) from other races, and 1 (1.2%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14 persons (16.7%).
