Kanchipuram district facts for kids
Kanchipuram district is a district in the northeast of the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The district has a total geographical area of 4,432 square kilometres (1,711 sq mi) and coastline of 57 kilometres (35 mi). The town of Kanchipuram is the district headquarters. Kanchipuram District had been administered by the Pallavas, Cholas, Vijayanagar rulers and the British before Independence.
Kanchipuram Silk
Kanchipuram district is known for its 'Silk', since it is one of the main professions of the people living in and around is weaving silk sarees. The silk weavers of Kanchipuram settled more than 400 years ago and made it as the producer of best silk sarees in the country.
Population
According to the 2011 census of India, Kanchipuram district had a population of 3,998,252. The sex-ratio was 986 females for every 1,000 males, much above the national average of 929.
