Juan de Dios Martínez Mera (9 March 1875 – 27 October 1955) was President of Ecuador from 1932 to 1933.
His primary education was done under the wise direction of his father, and then he entered the National College San Vicente del Guayas, where in 1892 he graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy with outstanding grades. That same year he began to study medicine, but soon after he retired to enter the Faculty of Jurisprudence (philosophy of law).
At the outbreak of the Liberal Revolution on June 5, 1895, he joined the insurgent army, and soon after entered the Escort of Honor that accompanied General Eloy Alfaro in all the battlefields. He then attended the triumph of Gatazo, and entered Quito, (capital of Ecuador} with the winners.
He then returned to Guayaquil where he continued his law studies that finished in 1898, he received the Municipality of Guayaquil Award.
At the age of 88 years, Don Juan de Dios Martinez Mera died in his hometown, Guayaquil, on October 27, 1955.
In Quito, a main avenue is named after him.
