John V. Romita Sr., often credited as simply John Romita (born January 24, 1930), is an American comic-book artist best known for his work on Marvel Comics' The Amazing Spider-Man and for co-creating the character The Punisher. Romita received an Inkpot Award in 1979 and was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2002.
John Romita Sr. married Virginia Bruno in November 1952. They lived in Brooklyn's Bensonhurst neighborhood until 1954, when they bought a house in the Queens neighborhood of Queens Village. Some years later, the family would move to Bellerose, New York, on Long Island.
Romita has two sons, Victor and John Jr. (born August 17, 1956), who followed in his footsteps to become a noted comic-book artist himself.
