The Jerusalem District (Hebrew: מחוז ירושלים; Arabic: منطقة اورشليم (القدس)) is one of the regions of Israel. In Israeli law, the capital is Jerusalem. The Jerusalem District has a land area of 652 km². The population of 1,083,300 is 65.6% Jewish and 32.8% Arab. A fifth (21%) of the Arabs in Israel live in the Jerusalem District, if both West Jerusalem and East Jerusalem are counted. Most countries do not agree that all of Jerusalem is a part of Israel.
Most Arabs in the Jerusalem District are Palestinians. They can become citizens of Israel, but they choose not to be. Some are Israeli Arabs living in Abu Ghosh, Beit Safafa and East Jerusalem.Of the people in the Jerusalem 28.3% are Muslims, 1.8% are Christians and 1.4% are unclassified by religion. The rest are Jews.
