Jefferson County, Virginia facts for kids
Virginia has twice named counties Jefferson County for one of its most revered sons, Thomas Jefferson, and lost the county each time to the formation of another state.
- Jefferson County, Kentucky, lost when the state of Kentucky was formed from part of Virginia in 1792.
- Jefferson County, West Virginia, lost when the state of West Virginia was formed from western Virginia in 1863.
