Description: Sir Henry Belassis, Baronet, was born 1555 and died in 1624, and was Sheriff of Yorkshire and MP for Thirsk. He was son of Sir William Belassis and Margaret Fairfax. He married Ursula Fairfax (d. 1633) and they had 3 children, Thomas, Dorothy and Mary, seen as weepers below. Monument by Nicholas Stone and includes a putto blowing bubbles - referring to the transience of human life. Arms include: Le Spring. Argent, an escutcheon in an orle of martlets sable (Foster, Joseph, ed. (1887). Sub quo simul requiescunt et gloriosum Christi Adventum expectant. Mors certa est, incerta dies, nec certa sequentum; Cura sibi tumulum qui parat, ille sapit. Freqens mortis et novissimi judicii recordatio a peccato revocat. That the time of his death is not mentioned, may be from the confusion of the nation that then happened".
