Description: The old William Syphax School located at 1322 Half Street, SW in the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The historically black school was named in honor of William Syphax, proponent of a unified school system and the first African-American member of the Board of Trustees of Colored Schools of Washington and Georgetown. Built in 1901, the Colonial Revival structure is now an affordable housing complex called Syphax Village. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
