Description: William Skirving (left), Fife farmer and radical campaigner for parliamentary reform in the late 18th century. As one of the 'Friends of the People', he was charged with sedition by the Crown and after a state trial was transported to Botany Bay where he died. He is commemorated on the Political Martyrs' Monument on the Calton Hill in Edinburgh.
