Description: Adult male White-winged Scoter (Melanitta deglandi). Difficult bird to get close to. This one was about 50 meters away, in Bodega Bay, California. Recently (fall of 2007) we saw increased numbers of White-winged Scoters off the Point Reyes National Seashore, as compared with recent years. Let's hope the population decline has ceased.
