Description: Picture taken on June 1, 2013 This Bottle Kiln is located at the corner of 3rd Street and Lisbon Street in Wellsville, Ohio. The kiln is 41.5 feet high. The bottom half of the Kiln was inside a shed and the top half was in the open air to exhaust smoke. The portion of the kiln that rose out of the shed into the air was made of a type of brick made to withstand the elements. The portion that was inside the shed was made from a different brick that has not weathered well over the years of exposure. The kiln was once part of the "stilt works" which was purchased in the 1920s by Acme Craft Pottery. The pottery was purchased in the 1960s by the Ohio Department Of Transportation in preparation for the construction of state Route 7, which was built in 1971. Over a period of time, ODOT was convinced by the Ohio Historical Society and East Liverpool Historical Society to allow the kiln to stand as "a silent symbol of the once-great pottery industry of Columbiana County". The Kiln is maintained by the Wellsville Historical Society, P.O. Box 13, Wellsville, OH 43968
