Description: Photo of the Kansas Capitol Building in Topeka. The initial design dates to 1866 and was by E. Townsend Mix of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His plan was modified by John G. Haskell, an architect from Lawrence, Kansas, named to the position of State Architect of Kansas in 1866. Haskell favored a plainer, more classical appearance than did Mix, who had planned mansard roofs in a Second Empire design.
