Description: Western hemlock-Sitka spruce coastal forest on the Tongass National Forest, Alaska. Western redcedar tends to replace Sitka spruce at higher elevations and further from the coast. It is a climax ecosystem, and the primary disturbances are salt spray, landslides, and floods which are limited to only small areas.
