Description: The inscribed stone on Haughhead Kip This stone commemorates a dispute over the farming rights of the surrounding land long ago. The stone was repaired and restored in 1854 by Lady John Scott. The inscription reads:- REPAIRED AND RESTORED BY THE LADY JOHN SCOTT HERE HOBY HALL BOLD MAINTAIND HIS RIGHT GAINST REEF PLAIN FORCE ARMED W LAWLESS MIGHT FOR TUENTY PLEUGHS HARNESD IN ALL THEIR GEAR COULD NOT THIS VALIEN NOBL HEART MAK FEAR BUT W HIS SWORD HE CUT THE FORMOSTS SOAM IN TWO HENCE DROVE BOTH PLEUGHS AND PLEUGH MEN HOME 1620 1854
