Description: The grave of an anarchist in Ladywell cemetery There are over 17 thousand graves in Ladywell and Brockley cemeteries, mostly (it seems) of unremarkable South London citizens. The poet Ernest Dowson is buried here however and tucked away inconspicuously is this resting place of Fernando Tarrida del Marmol (1861 or 2 - 1915), a Cuban/Spanish anarchist intellectual and writer who moved to London after being rounded up and imprisoned in Spain. He shares the grave with his young wife and baby daughter who both died in 1900. At the base are the words "For Liberty and the Cause of the Humbled He Gave His All."
