Description: The Phoenix Tower on the city walls. The Phoenix Tower, at the north east corner of the city walls, is no longer open to visitors due to structural problems. More commonly known as the King Charles Tower it is stated that the king watched from here in 1645 as his army was defeated at Rowton Moor. For the carvings at the top of the tower, above the steps, see 631562.
