Description: The Opium Racket. Satirical illustration mocking Hawaii's king Kalakaua ("The Duke of Gynberg") and his dealing with You Lie (Tong Kee) from the "Gynberg Ballads", a political satire published by Alatau T. Atkinson in 1887. According to historian Ralph Simpson Kuykendall, the ballad and illustrations are the works of Edward William Purvis, a former vice chamberlain in the Hawaiian royal court.
