Description: The Hornblast in Ripon. Ripon, North Yorkshire, England. The hornblow has taken place in Ripon City Square every night at 9.00 pm since 886AD. The tradition continues today. The horn is blown at each corner of the obelisk. It is then blown three times at the City Hall nearby (see other geograph) if the Mayor is inside. If the Mayor is not at the City Hall and is at home or is at one of the hostelries in Ripon, then the horn is blown three times there.
