Description: The Thaddeus Stevens School (also known as Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School or Stevens Elementary School) located at 1050 21st Street, NW in Washington, D.C. Designed by Alexander Pannell in 1868, the Colonial Revival/Romanesque building is one of the city's oldest surviving elementary schools built to educate African-American children. The school was named in honor of the Pennsylvania congressman and abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens. In 2001, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
