Description: Bushranger James MacPherson, 1866 Known as 'The Wild Scotsman'. He roamed from Bowen in North Queensland as far as New South Wales and was captured in the Wide Bay region, near Gin Gin in March 1866. He was imprisoned on St. Helena Island and eventually pardoned and released in December 1874.
He later met and married Elizabeth Ann Hoszfeldt and they had seven children, one of whom died as a baby. They lived most of their married life in Burketown. On 23 July 1895, James died after falling from his horse and was buried in an unmarked grave in Burketown cemetery.
