Description: St John's church - north aisle screen. During the rein of Edward the Confessor, part of modern-day Garboldisham was owned by the Abbey of Ely and the church of St John the Baptist > 1708154 was in existence in the latter part of the 11th century but the building as it stands today would have been built at a later date. The aisle windows are C14, the tower is C15 and the chancel is mainly Victorian with the chancel roof dating from that time also. The south aisle altar is Jacobean. Both aisles contain monuments and stained glass windows commemorating members of the Molineux-Montgomerie family. The stained glass windows are by Powell & Sons > 1708245. The font bowl > 1708333 is C13 but is resting on a modern stem. Beside the lectern there is a brass to John Carlton (1579) with his Mercer's Arms on a separate plate > 1708305. The base of the church's original screen dates from the 15th century and is without any decoration. The north aisle screen is C16 and believed to originate from the neighbouring and now ruined All Saints church > 1708140 - the upper section was made in Victorian times.
