Description: St Catherine's Hill, Guildford St Catherine's Hill on the western bank of the River Wey is formed out of the yellow-brown sandstone of the Folkestone Sands. These were deposited around 100 million years ago. Their yellow colour is due to the oxidisation (i.e. rusting) of the iron that is contained within them.
