Description: Map of battlefield core and study areas. The revised Study Area includes the historic route of the Yazoo River, which served as the route of approach and retreat for the Federal Navy between the Mississippi River and Snyder’s Bluff. The Study Area was also expanded to the east and north to include the entire length of the Confederate line. The Core Area adjustments reflect the range and sweep of the guns employed by Confederate defenders and the Federal Navy. The revised Core Area also includes the positions of Confederate batteries that fired down the Yazoo River at the Federal flotilla.
