Description: Caption on image: Sherman Street, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Coeur d'Alene was established in 1887 in northern Idaho near Fort Sherman. In the 1890's it served as a transfer point between silver mines in northern Idaho and their smelters. From 1900 on Coeur d'Alene served as the center of a major timber industry boom. Sherman Street (now Sherman Avenue) is in the main shopping district, which is in downtown Coeur d'Alene.
