Description: Burial mound at the Sequoyah Museum in Vonore, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The mound contains 191 burials that were excavated in the Tellico Archaeological Project, 1969-1979. The burials were reinterred here in the Spring of 1986. The right half of the center plaque displays Timberlake's "Draught of the Cherokee Country"; the left half reads: A PRINCIPAL PEOPLE IN MEMORY OF THE CHEROKEE PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN THE LITTLE TENNESSEE VALLEY PRIOR TO THE INUNDATION OF THE TELLICO RESERVOIR IN 1979. ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS WERE CONDUCTED AT THE MAJOR 18TH CENTURY CHEROKEE SITES. THE REMAINS OF 191 INDIVIDUALS RECOVERED IN THOSE EXCAVATIONS ARE BURIED IN THIS MOUND.
