Description: Photograph of the Giant Sequoiaen (Sequoiadendron giganteum en ) at the Tyler Arboretum (where it was identified). The tree has been the Pennsylvania state champion since 1950. It was planted in 1856. The central trunk was cut off in 1895, resulting in a tree with multiple spires (painter_trees.htm). As of 2006, its height is 29 m, its circumference 3.93 m, and it has a spread of 10.9 m (sequoiadendron_giant_sequoia.htm). The tree may be the largest giant sequoia in the eastern United States, however there is a taller one reported in Blithewold Gardens, in Bristol, Rhode Island.
