Description: The Pioneer Square Pergola, Pioneer Square, Seattle, Washington. Multiply included on the National Register of Historic Places, ID #77001340 (Pioneer Building, Pergola, and Totem Pole). The original 1909 Pergola was accidentally knocked over by a truck in January 2001 (Gene Johnson, Pioneer Square pergola leveled by truck, January 15, 2001); the current replica (shown here) was inaugurated in August 2002 (The View from Denny Park: News and Views from the Superintendent, Seattle Parks and Recreation newsletter, No. 28. July 30, 2002). Shown here in the early evening, during a First Thursday (when most of the neighborhood's art galleries open with their new shows and many artists' studios are opened to the public).
