Description: View from the west across the late Roman Sangarius Bridge, Turkey, according to a drawing from 1838. The just less than 430 m long structure was constructed between ca. 559-562 by the Roman emperor Justinian at the site of a pontoon bridge. The triumphal arch in the foreground has disappeared today.
