Description: This picture of the San Jacinto Monument was taken from water's edge at the Baytown Nature Center. The Nature Center is located on what was once a exclusive upscale residential area named Brownwood. Land subsidence cause by the ship channel oil refineries pumping well water for industrial use made Brownwood flood with Gulf Hurricanes. So the U.S. Government bought and razed the homes. Later Baytown turned Brownwood into a Nature Center.
