Description: RAF ground crew and American medical orderlies remove a stretcher bearing Captain John Giannaris, US Army, from the rear cockpit of a Westland Lysander Mark III(SD) of No. 148 (Special Duties) Squadron RAF, at an airfield in Italy following his evacuation from German-occupied Greece. Giannaris, a Greek speaking officer of the US Army, had led a 22 man Greek guerilla outfit until he stepped on a German Teller mine, nearly ending his life. He was evacuated back to the States and eventually recovered from his wounds.
