Description: A PNC Bank branch (historically known as Riggs National Bank, Dupont Circle Branch) located at 1913 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., (between 20th Street, Connecticut Avenue, and Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.) in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Designed by architect George Nicholas Ray, the two-story, Classical Revival bank was built in 1923 at a cost of $225,000. The site was previously occupied by Stewart's Castle, a Second Empire mansion designed by architect Adolf Cluss in 1873. The bank is designated as a contributing property to the Dupont Circle Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
