Description: Conservation of a painted ceiling at Riddle's court in Edinburgh in 2015. The decoration dating from the 1590s was painted with size or distemper paint. Conservators clean and consolidate the delicate surface with new size, painted through special Japanese tissue. Here, the tissue is left to protect or "face up" the paintwork while the building is restored.
