Description: Painting by Reza Abassi showing a man dressed as a European playing what is (probably) a viol. The viol was a plucked instrument, related to the vihuela and later turned into a bowed instrument. This one has soundholes not found on European instruments in this era, but seen in Persian instruments. This image is supposed to be in the Smithsonian (unconfirmed).
