Description: The Caledonia (a brig from Arbroath) was wrecked off Sharpnose Point on 7 September 1842. All but one of the crew died in the incident and the bodies of many of the deceased were interred here in the churchyard of Morwenstow parish church. The pine figurehead from the wrecked ship was erected as a memorial on the site of the burials and around 162 years later was removed for conservation (in 2004) before being mounted on the north wall inside the church (in 2008). The replica seen in this photograph is made of resin and should survive longer in the churchyard than the original wooden figure.
