Description: Half figure of a man in oriental costume. Jan Nowak-Jezioranski identifies him as Andrzej Rej, a grandson of Mikołaj Rej, a leading Polish poet and prose writer of the Renaissance. Andrzej Rej (ca. 1584-1641) was a governor of Libusza, Calvinist activist, and a diplomat who was sent on a diplomatic mission in 1637 to the Danish, Dutch and English courts. Other sources identify the sitter as John III Sobieski, King of Poland.
