Description: Remains of Ewhurst Brickworks The derelict kilns of Ewhurst Brickworks in the south-east corner of this grid square. Most of the buildings here date from the 1960s, but clay extraction began here in the 1940s under A. Hone & Sons Ltd. Raw clay was initially transported from pit to factory by means of a 2ft gauge diesel and battery-electric locomotive worked industrial railway but towards the end more modern plant took its place. The site closed in the 1980s and has now become a haven for wildlife and graffiti artists, who have covered the ruins with elaborate murals.
