Description: RML 9-pounder 8-cwt Field Gun, NBMHM, CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick. The Rifled Muzzle Loading (RML) 9-pounder 8-cwt Gun was developed by a British officer, William Palliser. With a range of 3,300 metres, this Gun threw a shell fitted with studs that held and slid along the grooves in the gun’s bore. At least 80 of these guns were purchased from the UK for Canada with the first of them arriving in 1873 and within the decade, they were being used extensively throughout the Regiment. The 9-pounder 8-cwt was the first Gun used by the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery in action. “A” Battery employed six of this type of gun at the battles of Fish Creek and Batoche in 1885 during the Riel Rebellion in the North West Campaign.
