Description: Portrait of Primus Parsons Mason, a prospector, businessman, real estate developer, and philanthropist, who donated the plot of land to Springfield, Massachusetts now known as Mason Square on the condition it be used for the public, and upon his death bequeathed a significant sum of money to start an elderly community for men of all races, it continues today as an affordable retirement center for the elderly. Upon his passing, this portrait was used for the likeness of Mason with an unknown writer of the Republican noting "the collar looks unnatural for he rarely submitted to that uncomfortable article of wear."
